
| We‘re human, right? was the title of a bilateral youth exchange that took place in Reutlingen, Germany in April 2010 and in Akureyri, Iceland in
May 2010. It was designed to motivate young people to be active citizens who are willing to care about their fellow human beings, to be the change they want to see in their communities as well as in
Europe and to get insights into the importance of representative democracy. Further the programme was designed as a platform for young people to empower each other in the respect for people’s
cultural origins, their values and beliefs.
8 young people from Iceland and 8 young people from Germany participated in the youth exchange. Their involvement was secured through methods and tools from the non-formal educational sector. They played a major role in hosting the foreign friend at their own home and vice versa as the same group of participants meet twice, once in each country. We’re human, right? Was also designed to promote healthy lifestyles through physical activities, such as sport and hiking and aimed at raising awareness among the young people to the global challenges of Human Right Education by learning through using different exercised from Compass – Council of Europe’s manual on human right education with young people.
